Rendre visible l'invisible.

Notre travail sera présenté sous forme d’un film d’animation mettant en scène des dessins et des photographies. En nous interrogeant sur la naissance de l’œuvre sculpturale, à l’aune de la théorie des idées de Platon, nous avons pensé que le sculpteur travaille d’après une image invisible et immatérielle qui se trouve dans son esprit et qui joue le rôle de paradigme dans la réalisation de l’œuvre sensible (matérielle et visible). Une fois cette œuvre sensible réalisée, une nouvelle image invisible et immatérielle de l’œuvre se forme dans l’esprit du spectateur, basée sur la perception de l’œuvre matérielle nouvellement créée. Il y a donc trois œuvres sculpturales dont une seule est statique : celle du milieu.
Nous avons donc choisi de travailler sur ces notions d’immatérialité et d’invisibilité inhérentes à l’œuvre sculpturale (matérielle et visible). Nous pensons que ces notions jouent un rôle majeur en intervenant d’une part avant la réalisation de l’œuvre, dans l’esprit du sculpteur, et d’autre part dans la perception des spectateurs, une fois cette œuvre terminée. Ainsi, la sculpture raconte une histoire dynamique qui commence avant son existence dans l’imagination du sculpteur et continue au-delà d’elle-même dans l’imagination de chacun. Ceci introduit donc dans la sculpture une notion de mouvement, qui malgré son invisibilité rend dynamique l’œuvre dans notre inconscient et place la sculpture comme matérialisation physique d’un instant faisant partie d’une histoire invisible et imaginaire.
Dans notre film, nous avons choisi de rendre visibles ces aspects invisibles inhérents à la sculpture. Ainsi en nous basant sur le Baiser de Rodin, nous pouvons voir, les protagonistes de cette œuvre évoluer tout d’abord dans l’univers plat de l’esprit, avant de prendre la position qu’ils occupent dans l’œuvre. Puis dans une seconde partie du film, nous pouvons voir comment ces mêmes personnages se meuvent dans l’esprit des spectateurs.
Nous mettons ainsi en évidence les oppositions entre matérialité et immatérialité, entre visible et invisible, (peut être entre réel et imaginaire) qui cohabitent dans la sculpture, tout en cherchant à voir quelle place a le mouvement au sein de celle-ci. Nous avons également adopté une approche minimaliste de l’espace autour de l’œuvre.
La première partie du film d’animation est réalisée au crayon. La seconde avec des photographies. Ce qui nous a permit de réfléchir sur la manière d’exprimer le mouvement par le dessin et par la photographie.

Our work will be presented as an animated film featuring drawings and photographs. By wondering about the birth of a sculptural work, we thought that the sculptor starts from an invisible and immaterial picture in his mind that works as a paradigm while making the material and visible piece of art. When this material work is done, a new immaterial and invisible picture takes shape in the mind of the viewer, based on the perception of the piece of art that he watches. So we can say that there are three different sculptural works but only one is static: the material one.
We have therefore chosen to work with these notions of immateriality and invisibility that are inherent in every material and visible sculptural work. We believe that these concepts play a major role in both the spirit of the sculptor during the making of the work and in the perception of the work by the viewer afterward. Moreover, every sculpture is like a snapshot of a scene that is a part of a global story that began in the imagination of the sculptor before the making of the sculpture itself. And this story continues in the imagination of the viewer when the sculpture is done. The notion of movement is therefore inherent in the sculpture. The movement is invisible; it only takes place in our unconscious when we watch the sculpture and when we imagine how the situation we are watching happened and what happens next. The scene that the sculpture represents is a physical materialization of an invisible and imaginary history.
In our film, we chose to make visible the invisible aspects inherent in the sculpture The Kiss by August Rodin. The protagonists of this work first evolve in the flat universe of the mind, before taking the position they occupy in the work. Then in the second part of the film, we can see how these characters move in the mind of the viewers.
We thus highlight the movement and the opposition between materiality and immateriality, visible and invisible, reality and imagination that coexist within the sculpture. Moreover, we adopted a minimalist approach of the space around the work.
The first part of the animation film is done with pencil. The second part with photographs. This allowed us to wonder about how to express the movement in drawing and in photography.

Enfin, les dates de présentation au Sadler's Wells se précisent: 16 et 17 mars 2012. Nous travaillons également à la préparation de l'exposition à Chaillot au moment de la venue de la Russell Maliphant Company (31/01 au 10/02).

Dear all, one last message before holiday break. First, we are very impressed by the quality of your works, and it's very interesting to see how some of them seem to be connected to others.

And finaly, we know the dates for the presentation of the works in Sadler's Wells: 16th and 17th of March 2012. We are also working hard on the organisation of the exhibition of some of the works done by the French students in Chaillot, when Russell Maliphant Company will be here (31/01 to 10/02).

Le corps géométrisé, mécanisé et stylisé en mouvement, laisse des couleurs, des lignes, son dynamisme et ses rythmes. Par ce fait il crée une nouvelle danse, voir une nouvelle expression.

Suite à la video, réalisation d’une présentation des photographies light painting, qui capturent le mouvement et montrent une nouvelle composition abstraction du corps qui réalise une performance.

Notre projet se base sur la projection de lumière et de vidéos, sur des modules et des corps. Nous avons réalisé une scénographie autours de trois corps prenant des poses des sculptures de Rodin. Chaque pose fut choisi de manière à développer une des sous notion suivante : la déformation , la dimension et le mouvement .

Our project is base on the projection of light and videos, on modules and bodies. We made a scenography around three body taking poses of Rodin’s sculptures. Each pose have been chosen to develop sub idea following the deformation, the dimension and movement.
